I Have a Dog

“I don’t need a security system, I have a dog.”

When you’re in sales, you hear it all.  One of my favorite responses when presenting the idea of providing security for someone’s home is, “ I don’t need a security system, I have a dog ”.  My response is usually, “ great, I’m sure you love your dog, so all the more reason to get a security system ”.

Don’t get me wrong, as man’s best friend; dogs have a lot of great qualities.  Playing fetch, Rolling over, and taking a long hike in the woods.  But correct me if I’m wrong, dogs are not capable to of calling the fire department when there’s a fire.  They can’t call the police when there’s a burglar lurking outside the house. There are going to be times when the dog is home alone.  This is the time a home security system will allow homeowners to have peace of mind.

The idea of home security is to provide security for the entire family .  Most people I know consider their dog as a member of the family .  Actually, the dog may be their favorite family member in many instances.  Being in the “dog house” usually refers to a family member of the human nature.

A barking dog, we’ll call him Sparky can certainly deter a burglar at times.  But a professional will hit a home when nobody is there and Sparky may be nothing more than a two minute nuisance.  There are stories of teams of two burglarizing a home at when nobody is home.  One person will break a bathroom window getting the undivided attention of Sparky.  He then throws in some meat with poison on it and burglar number two enters from the back door, makes his way through the house and slams the bathroom door shut, locking Sparky in the bathroom.

As awful as this story sounds, it happens.  The other scenario is a fire.  What if the homeowners are not home and a fire starts.  The smoke detectors go off.  Sparky, our favorite four legged guy is alone and has no way to get out.  With a monitored smoke detector, the call center is alerted immediately.  They then dispatch the fire department.  Sparky is saved, thanks to a monitored smoke detector.

Many people think having a dog is reason to not get a security system for their home, when in reality it’s just another reason to get a home security system.  Save Sparky, get a Honeywell Home Security System from American Total Protection.

The first step to controlling access to your building is the door(s) employees or visitors may enter through. In the morning, do you unlock these doors for the day? Do you leave it locked throughout the day? Who is responsible for these tasks?
