How Do You Detect a Smash and Grab Robbery?

For home security , there was once a time when elite security companies frowned upon using a “ one box ” solution. A one box solution refers to when the control panel (the brains) and the keypad are together in one unit . Most alarm systems are “ two box ” solutions. Meaning, the control panel is located in a basement or utility room and has a wire running to the keypad(s). These systems can accommodate hardwired and wireless devices. Additionally, the control panel is often in a metal “can” and out of sight, making it difficult for burglars to locate. This provides an added layer of security as a burglar could not rip the control panel off the wall before it communicated with the monitoring center. These systems are still very popular, but the security professionals at American Total Protection feel comfortable recommending another solution. One box solutions now have “ smash and grab ” technologies. Since the keypad/ control panel is typically located by a door, it is very accessible and visible to a potential robber. This allows potential intruders to rip the unit off the wall. With the new technology in Honeywell’s Lynx Series , the homeowner is protected . This is how it works in a hypothetical break in:

1. The door is opened , which results in the panel sending a “ ping ” through Alarmnet, Honeywell’s secure communication path.
2. The robber locates the Lynx 5200 on the wall and smashes it off the wall with a baseball bat.
3. Seconds pass and our monitoring station attempts to send a ping back to the Lynx 5200 , which is not received.
4. The monitoring station calls local authorities to make them aware of a possible break in.
5. The monitoring station calls the secure call list .

With this “ Advanced Protection Logic ” offered by Honeywell , the one box solution is now extremely secure. Although the Lynx Series cannot accommodate hardwired devices, the wireless technology has developed significantly over time, resulting in reliable transmissions and prolonged battery life.

The Lynx Series is ideal for :
Homes , both new and old, that are difficult to wire
Homes without basement or utility rooms
Homeowners that may be moving shortly and want to bring the Lynx with them
