What You Need to Know About Home Security and Children

Do you have an alarm? Do you also have children? It is important that your child understands the alarm and what to do when the alarm is “activated”.

Young children should never be left home alone. However, there are instances where parents feel that at a certain age, their child is responsible enough to be left alone while they run out to the store. If you ran down the street to pick up milk from the store, does your 12 year old boy know how your alarm system works? If he or she does not, this is a good start.

These are some simple things to teach your child.

  1.  If the alarm sounds, quickly locate the closest phone as ATP Alarms will be calling within seconds.
  2. If ATP Alarms calls or if you hear or see the carbon monoxide alarm going off —grab the portable phone and get outside immediately .
  3. Teach your child how to utilize the panic feature on the alarm . If you leave your child at home, he or she is mature enough to know how to trigger an emergency.
  4. If the smoke alarm sounds, grab a phone immediately head towards the exit . If there is a real fire, you will want to vacate the premises.
  5. If there are ever any questions about how to arm/disarm/reset/bypass the alarm, call the family over at (844)-ATP-ALRM . The staff will be able to walk you through any questions you may have regarding an alarm system.

When the time comes that your child can be left at home without an adult, he or she should be well versed in how to use the alarm system. ATP is more than happy to walk you and your child through the basics so you feel even more comfortable leaving them home alone. You can always visit our home security section or video resource section  to learn more about security systems and their devices.

This is real life . You need a real security company . We are American Total Protection .
