From One Pet Lover to Another, Protect your Pets!

It drives me crazy when people tell me: “ I have a dog, that’s my security system .” Okay, great, I love dogs (real dogs, not small yapping dogs) but who is going to protect them? You might say, “ Oh, he is a 90 pound German Shepherd and does not need security .” When I hear this, it takes a lot of self-restraint not to scream at the customer, “ What about fire ?!”

If you have a pet, you MUST have monitored smoke detectors. I have a dog. He is a Siberian husky named Shiloh and he is 75 pounds. He is crazy, fast, strong, intimidating, and smarter than the average American. Do you know the one of the things he cannot do? Open the drawer below my kitchen sink, pick up a fire extinguisher, spray it at the base of the fire, and thus mitigate the amount of damage. He also cannot unlock the back door to escape to his back yard (he is smart enough to open doors with his nose but he has not mastered locks—that day will come). The point— he cannot fight fire by himself —he needs help. I have monitored smoke detectors to protect my house , my belongings , and most importantly, my dog .

Enough with my attempt to be funny— if you have a pet, buy a monitored smoke detector. When I say monitored, I am referring to a smoke detector that is connected to ATP Alarms’ central station. Having a “local” smoke detector is not sufficient. This is because if no one is home, no one can hear the alarm and thus no one can save your pets.

Recently, there was a tragedy in Cheshire, Connecticut. A home was completely destroyed due to a house fire. In addition, the family’s beloved pet was unable to escape the flames. The journalist describing the scene explains the child crying in her mother’s arms. The family had no idea that the house was engulfed in flames until they returned. At that point, it was too late.

I do not sell with fear tactics, I sell with facts. The bottom line is if you have a pet and leave your pet home alone at times, you are doing your pet a disservice . If you have a pet, please call American Total Protection about monitored smoke detectors. I truly believe the investment will be worth knowing that your pet is safer.

As always, all consultations with an ATP Alarm’s representative are free. If you are a current customer and would like to add monitored smoke detectors to your home security system, please call our office to schedule a convenient time to discuss your options.
