8 Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable Halloween

Trick or Treat ! Yes, it’s time for ghouls, witches, princesses, and superheroes. It is Halloween . But Halloween is not without its troubles. We give you 8 tips for a safe and enjoyable Halloween.

Stay Alert
Distracted driving can lead to accidents. There are many accidents that happen on Halloween night and kids are the most vulnerable. To prevent death to a pedestrian and possible manslaughter charges, do not drive drunk or distracted. And with so many persons young and old out trick-or-treating you have to ensure that you are even more vigilant on the road.

Trick-or-Treat Safely
To reduce risks to children, ensure that their clothing has something reflective to allow others, especially drivers, to clearly see them. Also, ensure that you use flashlights to prevent any mishaps in the dark as well as to illuminate their position to oncoming drivers.

Prevent Injuries
Before Halloween, ensure that you inspect your yard for any problems that could lead to injuries and possible suits. It may be tempting to leave the place dark to add to the atmosphere of your decorations but remember the little ones. If you will be handing out candies, ensure that the walkway to the door is properly lit to prevent any mishaps.

Prevent Fire
It is traditional to light your jack-o-lanterns with candles. Unfortunately, this is a fire hazard should the jack-o-lantern tip over whether by your pets or a trick-or-treater. Using a battery powered light will eliminate the risk of fire from a candle.

Protect Your Property
Home security is an important point to remember this Halloween. With intrusion/burglar alarms, you can prevent theft on a night when you might be out partying. If you will not be home, make sure that you set your alarm system. A remotely accessible system like Total Connect  will remove the worries of trying to remember if you had set the alarm and one with remote monitoring will allow to you to always double-check that your property is armed. Also, ensure that your motion sensor lights are working.

Protect Your Pets
On a night as Halloween, it is not safe to leave the pets outdoors. They may be frightened by weirdly dressed trick-or-treaters or they may scare the children. Keep them inside and if you have to leave, ensure that you have a camera monitoring system that you can use to periodical check in on your pets.

Safeguard Your Home
With candles and sometimes decorative lights, accidents can happen which could lead to a fire. A smoke detector and fire alarm system will help to keep your home safe and protected in the event of such a situation. It is even better if you have a fire sprinkler system attached to the alarm.

Check the Candy
Finally, inspect all candy before you allow the kids to eat them and explain to them the reasons why they must wait before starting to eat.
