Building a New Home?
The Top 4 Benefits of Professional Security Prewiring

Prewiring your new under-construction home for integrated  security systems  and remote monitoring is the safest bet.

What is Prewiring?

Prewiring is installing the wiring for electrical systems during construction in advance of the usual installation. You can do this for home systems such as air conditioning, internet, cable. And you can also include prewiring your alarm system while electricians are installing other wires in the construction phase.

4 Benefits of Professional Security Prewiring

1. It’s Easier and More Aesthetically Pleasing
When the frames of your intended home are exposed, that is the best time to drill holes and run wires. Prewiring hides the cables out of site for a more aesthetically pleasing space once the construction is completed.

2. Better Integration
Prewiring allows your alarm specialists and your electrician to work together for any power requirements the alarm system may need.

If budget is tight when you pre-wire your home, you can then install your  security system  in phases as you go. For example, you can start out with the door sensors. Then later move on to the window sensors. You can have a keypad for a basic system and then easily upgrade in the future because you would have already prewired for an upgrade.

3. You Future Proof Your Home
With pre-wiring, you can run cables and wires for things you would like to have in the future. Even if you don’t have the funds now for full installation, when you prewire, it makes the eventual installation process much easier.

For future-proofing your home, consider additional locations for motion detectors, lighting control, home automation devices, and keypad locations. A qualified security professional can help you make the best decisions on locations and what you would need for a fully automated and protected home.

4. Post-wiring can take more time and effort
Installing security wiring in an existing home can be difficult, especially for amateur alarm personnel. The main problem with post-wiring is that some areas of the home may be inaccessible or require cutting into walls.

Prewiring Your Under-Construction Home

When wiring your property during the construction phase, you need to consider:

  • The control panel which covers the power option, keypads, automation wiring, etc.
  • Wiring for perimeter and interior burglar alarm (door and window sensors, motion and glass break detectors)
  • Fire alarm wiring with heat and smoke; and carbon monoxide detectors

So, with your new house, prewire for your immediate needs, and plan prewiring for possible future needs and required upgrades. It’s best to have it in now than wish you could have it later.
