What are Smart Windows?
Because I work in the security industry for a Honeywell authorized security dealer, I am always researching new technology and partnerships in the industry. While reviewing the new ZWave and Total Connect articles, I happened to stumble across an interesting excerpt about Honeywell and Andersen Windows , Inc. This caught my eye immediately. I always enjoy hearing about Honeywell’s growth, but to hear that they have collaborated with another great company like Anderson Windows is something new and exciting.
To give you a brief history on Andersen Windows , Inc, they are a privately owned window and door company , that is the largest manufacturer in North America , and have been in business since 1904. With Honeywell being the leader in home security , I don’t think it’s possible to dream up two better companies to partner. The reason why I feel as though this is great news for homeowners is because you can now knock off two birds with one stone, while getting some of the best products on the market.
The growing trend in the security industry is building “ smart systems ” in order to turn people’s residences into “ smart homes ”. We are beginning to see “smart homes” more often because homeowners pay a substantial amount of money to have this nice home and want to secure it while having something aesthetically pleasing. This is where the Andersen / Honeywell windows come into play. With the Andersen windows you will not only be purchasing a top of the line energy saving window, but you will also have the opportunity to buy it with a wireless sensor in it. Instead of having a sensor that is visible, the Honeywell contact would be located inside of the lock, that way no one would be able to see it. By investing in this product you would not only be saving money from an energy standpoint , but you would also be saving money from the security system side of it. One feature that I found incredibly useful to go along with this window set up, is the notifications that it can provide. If you have a window unlocked your system will be able to tell you right away which window it is to be sure your home security and energy saving aspects are being used to their full potential.
