Getting Your Home Ready for Fall
Your Home Security & Safety Checklist

Fall is here. That beautiful time of the year when we can enjoy the lush beauty of nature right before the frigid cold of winter. It’s college football and NFL season and enjoying Sunday afternoons with family and friends. But, it is also time to make sure that our homes are ready for Fall and inevitably winter.

Home security  checks help to keep you on your toes regarding your safety and security. And Fall presents a perfect time to run your home security reviews.

Autumn Safety and Security Checks – Outside:

Landscaping:  Are the shrubs growing up to block the view of your windows from the yard or the street? If yes, you are providing burglars a nice hiding place from which they can attempt to break into your home.

Lighting:  Are your outdoor lighting and motion detectors in working order? A strategically lit yard can act as a strong deterrent to criminals. With less daylight time during fall, it’s always a good option to invest in automated security lights that are either based on motion sensors or dusk-to-dawn systems.

Access Points:  Are your doors and windows connected to your security system, and your intrusion detection alarms functioning properly? Make sure your doors and windows are of sturdy material not just to withstand intruders but to stand up to the elements in the winter.

Fall Safety and Security Checks – Inside:
Sensors and detectors:  Now is a great time to test all your indoor sensors. Carbon monoxide poisoning is one of the leading causes of home deaths in America. So, make sure that your Carbon monoxide sensors, smoke, and fire detectors are working. Check batteries to see if they need to be replaced.

Fire extinguishers:  When last did you get your fire extinguishers serviced by a licensed professional? If your fire extinguisher hasn’t been tested or maintained in over a year, it’s time to contact  ATP Alarms  for help servicing your portable fire extinguishers.

Security system:  Are there any problems with your security system? Can you access your central monitoring station quickly? Are your security cameras doing their jobs? And if you worry about forgetting to close windows and doors, consider investing in a smart home security system. This allows you to control your access points remotely.

Temperature Controls:  Is your thermostat smart? With winter on the heels of fall, you need a functioning thermostat to keep your home at just the right temperature. A smart thermostat can be programmed to auto adjust based on your predetermined settings. And this can lead to significant savings through energy management and conservation.
