Flipping a House? You Need Home Security Too

Flipping a House with Home Security

Do you know anyone who flipped a home in 2015 ? If your answer is no then keep asking around and I am sure you can find someone in your social circle who took part in one. In all seriousness, I feel like everyone was getting involved in the house flipping industry this past year. I personally know three people who were involved in projects and just driving down streets and seeing work done on homes I can tell you it’s a trend that is going to continue to grow as profits from house flipping are on the rise.

I met with one of my referral partners last week and we were discussing how she needed to protect her latest project. After hearing her voice her concern, it dawned on me that every house flip project should have some sort of home security protection for when no one is on site. Most homeowners will feel as though they will not need any security in their home because none of their personal belongings are in the property. What they do not realize is that there are burglars out there who are starting to target house flips for burglaries.

Think about it, what is a better place to rob then a home that you know no one will be in. All you have to do is show up, act like you’re part of the working crew, take whatever you want, and then leave. It seems crazy, but it has been happening quite often recently. In speaking with my referral partner she stated that one of the neighbors saw a van pull up to the home they were working on around 7 PM sit there for five minutes and then pull away. The main reason the neighbors found the van suspicious was because it did not have my friend’s company name on the van like their entire fleet does.

Being in the security industry seeing this had my attention and I did a little bit more digging on the topic of home break-ins on house flips. When I started to asking around about other scenarios like this I was not surprised to hear a plethora of horror stories just like the previous one. What I found out was that people were breaking into homes to vandalize, take copper, and steal appliances .

My resolution to the project owners is extremely easy. Install an alarm system that includes motion sensors to better protect the property and hard work that you have done thus far while no one is on site. Imagine showing up to your project at 9 AM Monday morning and the AC, washer, dryer, and stove have all been removed from the house and someone broke three of the windows. Sounds like an expensive headache to deal with if you ask me. So the next time you get involved with a home project and don’t want to spend countless hours worrying about if your investment is safe, think of American Total Protection . This is real life . You need a real security company .
