Why Choose Monitored Smoke Detectors?

There are many different products and options to consider when building a security system for your residence or business. The one piece of equipment that constantly gets overlooked is the monitored smoke detector . When bringing up the subject of smoke detectors , potential clients usually reply with, “I don’t need those I already have smoke detectors throughout my house”. What they do not realize is that having monitored smoke detectors might actually be one of the biggest assets to have in a security system.

How does that old aged expression go? “ If a tree in the woods falls, does anyone actually hear it? ”. The same can be said when talking about standard battery powered smoke detectors . If you are not home, and the smoke detectors are going off, are you going to hear them from the grocery store or wherever you may be? This is why having monitored smoke alarms come in handy. Wouldn’t you want someone to show up at your house to put out a fire if you were not home and had no clue what was going on? For you readers thinking “that’s what I have insurance for”, think about your possessions or your pets. For a small sum of money protecting your prized belongings and animals is worth it, don’t you think?

When comparing a basic smoke detector to a monitored smoke detector one can say it’s like bringing a squirt gun to an old western duel. Is it a gun? Does it work? Will it get you out of this predicament that you are in? Now I can’t sit here and tell you that a battery powered smoke detector serves zero purposes because that would be a lie. If you are at home and sleeping sure it will probably do its job, (assuming they have been tested and are still working properly). If you had a monitored smoke detector configured in with your monitored security system the central station would be calling your home, your cell phone and the fire department. The main concern of course is life safety and when you are away from home, and the potential stress and tragedy you would have to deal with if your house were to catch on fire. I suggest you seriously consider adding monitored smoke detectors to your layers of security . I also suggest you read these stats from the US Fire Administration
